The embassy moved in December 2017 to a new building in Nine Elms, on the south bank of the Thames, which was officially opened on 1 January 2018.
The first US Embassy building on Grosvenor Square was occupied by the Canadian High Commission from 1962 to 2014. The High Commission is now entirely based at Canada House, on Trafalgar Square, which has been its main location since 1923.
